Shawn McNelley Remembered After Passing From Lung Cancer Linked To Army Service As Family Seeks Support
Shawn McNelley died on Thursday, May 28, 2026, after lung cancer connected to exposures during Army service, according to a June 1, 2026 fundraiser organized by Bri Daniels in Glendive, MT.
Shawn McNelley was a 100% Disabled American Veteran who served with the 101st Airborne, had been an Army Ranger in the 1980s, and endured lifelong health challenges after a 100 ft cliff fall.
The fundraiser said Shawn McNelley shared 32 years of marriage with Carol McNelley, who was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia five years ago and now needs full-time care.
Bri Daniels said they moved in during December 2025 to help the household, which also includes Carol McNelley’s grandson with autism, who remains 100% financially dependent on Carol McNelley.
As of the post, 16 donations had raised $1,625 toward a $10K goal for housing, care, medical costs, past bills, funeral expenses, and car repairs.
Memorial service details and obituary information will be announced later by the family.
